Schiavo Alert!

Bush's approval ratings are tanking. The administration's top-priority plan to use "personal accounts" to gut Social Security is dead in the water. Meanwhile, in Congress, the odor of scandal surrounding Republican Majority Leader Tom DeLay grows fouler with each passing day.

Isn't it time for the Department of Homeland Security to ratchet up the terror alert level?

Why are the Republicans using the Schiavo case as their smokescreen rather than the tried-and-true Terror Trick? The polls are showing that a majority of the American people oppose federal intervention in the Schiavo case and a supermajority of them believe that the congressional intervention spearheaded by DeLay is motivated by politics, not principle.

If the Republicans realize that the terror dog don't hunt no more, where do they get the idea that this one will?

Here's the thinking.

The only people left for the Republicans (i.e. liars, cheaters, and thieves) to pander to are the Catholics.

They already appealed to (and won) the non-thinking, moralist, nutcase religious ultra-rights in the last election with their promise of anti-abortion Supremes (die Roe v. Wade, die!!!) and their promise to keep the queers from getting married.

But, the Catholics might have stayed home or split, since Kerry is one.

Now, with this appeal to the nutjobs in the Catholic church (not necessarily ALL of them, but quite a few) they can consolidate and get some more votes at no expense.

It's just politics.

Despite their massive control over the vote-counting system, they are still scared of a sudden swing against them in 2006. After all, if the house went Democratic there would be a bill of impeachment on the floor within the first 10 days and if the Senate went (honestly) Democrat, the conviction wouldn't take but a week or two, even with a near-death Renquist presiding.

Got to make sure they don't lose ground in '06.

That's all Schiavo was about.

Not like George "Fry-em and Smile" Bush cares a bit about the "culture of life."

Make me sick.

Republicans lie and people die.
Republicans steal and give to their rich friends.
Republicans cheat and think it's OK.
Get rid of all Republicans in 2006 and 2008.
